Ubuntu 7.04 on a Dell Inspiron 4150

I previously had Debian Unstabled installed on this machine. But since I have nothing better to do, I formatted and installed Windows Vista… er no sorry, Ubuntu.

Well, I wasn’t that worried, everything worked fine in Debian – Suspend/Resume, Wireless, Sound. And Ubuntu ?

Everything worked except for: Wifi and Suspend/Resume. Wifi was a simple case of installing ndisWrapper.

Suspend/Resume was something. It took me a while to figure out: seems Ubuntu changes the default console fonts and that makes the resume video fail. I edited /etc/default/acpi-support and /etc/default/console-setup. Still I get a funny noisy screen when resume fortunately my consoles are ok.

acpi-support

ACPI_SLEEP=true
ACPI_HIBERNATE=true
ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem
MODULES="snd_intel8x0"
MODULES_WHITELIST="radeon"
SAVE_VBE_STATE=false
VBESTATE=/var/lib/acpi-support/vbestate
POST_VIDEO=true
SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=false
USE_DPMS=false
RADEON_LIGHT=false
DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=false
HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown
LOCK_SCREEN=true
DISABLE_DMA=false
RESET_DRIVE=false
STOP_SERVICES="mysql "
RESTART_IRDA=false
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=false

And in /etc/default/console-setup, change FONTFACE=”Fixed” to FONTFACE=”VGA”

Happy Sleeping !
